Var Vasilchenko (he/they) is a visual artist currently living in Rockville, MD. He is an oil and acrylic painter and loves creating portraits and abstract paintings. He is currently focused on expanding his portfolio and aims to create art that brings joy to the people around him. Var enjoys spending his time hiking, playing video and board games, learning new things, petting his cat named Oatmeal, and going out with his friends.
Var was born in Moscow, Russia but has spent the majority of his life in the DC Metro area. Having grown up in Montgomery County, Maryland, he was fortunate to have found a Russian-American community that allowed him to stay in touch with his Russian heritage. He is a part of the Organization of Russian Youth Pathfinders in America, a scouting organization with a troop in the DMV, and has participated both as a scout and a councelor. Var enjoys working with kids and is currently working as an after school art teacher with Project EYL365.
Var graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2019 with a Bachelor's in Computer Science and Linguistics. He is interested in data science and machine learning, particularly in its applications to natural language. During his time at UMD, he was an actor with the Maryland Shakespeare Players.
